Coaching & New Direction
My coaching in Buckhurst Hill can help when you feel stuck, want a new direction or cannot see what comes next.
I combine therapeutic insight with a practical, forward-focused approach. Sessions give you space to understand what is keeping you stuck, explore what matters now and consider realistic next steps.
You do not need to arrive with a plan. Knowing something needs to change is enough to begin.
You know something needs to change
Life can look fine from the outside while feeling very different on the inside.
Perhaps your routine, which once worked, no longer fits. Motivation has dropped. Decisions feel harder. You keep going over the same questions without getting any closer to an answer.
You may even feel frustrated with yourself. You have handled difficult situations before. Why can’t you work this one out?
Feeling stuck does not always come with a clear explanation. Sometimes several things are changing at once. Work. Family. Relationships. Health. Your sense of who you are.
Coaching gives you space to stop circling the problem and start looking at what is happening now.
Sessions can help you:
- Work through decisions which feel difficult to make
- Explore what is keeping you stuck
- Recognise patterns which keep repeating
- Identify what matters to you now
- Work out practical next steps
Life changes. What comes next?
Your roles in life can become part of your identity.
Then something changes. You are made redundant after decades in the same career.
Retirement takes away the structure which shaped your weeks. Your children leave home.
Midlife can bring questions about who you are and what comes next. For years, you knew your place and purpose. Now you are asking: What am I supposed to do next?
When a major part of your life changes, your sense of self can change with it. You may lose your routine, sense of purpose or part of your identity.
For some women, perimenopause or menopause can happen alongside changes at home or work. Divorce, children leaving home or a career change can add another layer.
You may not know whether what you are feeling comes from menopause, changes in your life, or both.
Men can face their own questions in midlife. Divorce, retirement or changes in family life can leave you questioning your role, identity and what comes next.
You can’t change what has happened.
But you can start working out what comes next.
Coaching can help you:
- Understand what brought you to this point
- Regain a sense of focus and direction
- Work out what matters to you now
- Take practical steps towards a new direction
Coaching isn’t someone telling you what to do
You may already get plenty of advice. Friends have opinions. Family members mean well. But the people closest to you already know you, your history and the choices you have made. They may have their own ideas about what you should do next.
As your counsellor or coach, I don’t come into the conversation with the same expectations as someone who already knows you. I can give you space to explore your thoughts, recognise familiar patterns and work out what feels right for you.
My approach to coaching in Buckhurst Hill is warm, open and practical. I’m not here to hand you a plan for your life or tell you what you should do next.
Instead, we can look at what is happening from a different angle. I may gently challenge an assumption or ask a question which helps you notice something you haven’t seen before.
I can also introduce practical tools to help you work out what you want and start moving towards it.
You can use our sessions to:
- Hear your own thoughts more clearly
- Understand what may be getting in the way
- Look at your situation from a different perspective
- Explore your options without being told what to do
- Get practical tools you can use outside our sessions
My goal is to help you reach a point where you feel able to make your own choices and move forward without relying on me.
Counselling or Coaching? Sometimes you need both.
What if moving forward means looking back first?
Sometimes, you need to understand how you got here before you can work out where you want to go next.
A lack of direction is not always solved by setting a new goal. A loss may still be affecting you. Anxiety may be making everyday decisions harder.
Years of putting everyone else first may have made it hard to recognise your own needs.
This is where my background as a counsellor and therapeutic coach can help. Integrative counselling can help you understand how you got here. Coaching can help you work out what you want next and how to start moving towards it.
The balance between counselling and coaching depends on what you need.
Working across both approaches can help you:
- Understand what sits behind feeling stuck
- Explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour
- Recognise patterns which keep repeating
- Work out what you want to change
- Take practical steps towards what you want next
You do not need to know whether counselling or coaching is right for you before we start. You may not know what needs to change either.
We can start with what is happening now and work out what comes next together.
What does moving forward look like?
Change does not have to mean tearing your life apart. A new direction can start small. You may already know what you no longer want.
You may start to see a difficult decision more clearly. Moving forward may mean creating a new routine after redundancy, retirement or divorce. Perhaps you begin thinking about your own needs after years of focusing on everyone else.
Progress can mean feeling calmer. More steady. More able to make your own choices.
Coaching can help you work towards:
- Clearer priorities.
- A stronger sense of what you want.
- Practical steps you can take.
- Tools you can use on your own.
- A clearer sense of what comes next.
If exhaustion has made change feel impossible, burnout and stress counselling may also help you understand what has been draining your energy.
The aim is not to keep you in therapy or coaching forever. It is to help you recognise old patterns and use the tools from our work long after our sessions end.
